The industrial shell wrapping a warm core. Turn daily errands-like grocery shopping, browsing creative goods, buying fresh bread-become cherished memories that extend the vacation lasting longer.
COMMERCE AND SPACE
Located on the west side of Rushi Hai Park in Qinhuangdao, Hebei, "Life Market" joins restaurants, bookstores, and theaters to form the vibrant Coastal Holiday Plaza. This project represents an innovative attempt at a mixed-use format, designed to transcend the limitations of single operator. By integrating supermarket, gift shop, and bakery into a composite commercial space, it aims to deliver a differentiated and diverse shopping experience.
To break away from the enclosed feel of traditional supermarkets and offer a more convenient, diverse shopping experience, we have eliminated interior partitions in favor of mobile shelving for flexible layout. Lower shelves are placed along the windows to enhance the interaction between indoor and outdoor, drawing pedestrians in with the allure of the window display and the merchandise.
STANDARDS AND FLEXIBILITY
The layout and circulation of retail space are the most critical factors that influences shopping behavior. The supermarket arranges displays around the central island, establishing spatial order through standard modular combinations.
As the central anchor of the shelving system, a square island is positioned in the middle to establish a loop circulation. This allows shoppers to freely weave through the aisles, naturally stimulating the impulse of purchasing.
The standard shelving units are custom-made from aluminum and marine plywood. Combining functionality with flexibility, as well as reserving the opportunities for future business evolution.
Marine plywood is lightweight yet highly durable. It allows for adjustable shelf heights and supports various display methods, including flat laying, angled insertion, and hanging.
Equipped with swivel casters at the base, the shelves can be moved, combined, or split on demand. This allows for quick circulation adjustments to accommodate promotional events or peak traffic flows.
DIFFERENCE AND JUXTAPOSITION
The distinct identities of supermarket and bakery allow each sub-space to elevate its merchandise, creating a multi-layered sensory experience through juxtaposition.
In contrast to the industrial feel of the supermarket, the bakery features raw red brick with rustic texture. Paired with warm lighting, it carves out a different spatial zone.
Echoing the soft, fluffy texture of bread, the bakery utilizes red brick finishes and curved forms to create a relaxed and inviting vibe. The diverse overlapping patterns of the bricks add a playful touch to the space.
