English description provided by the architects.
Seturi Studio is a hybrid living and working space in Tbilisi, located within a historic building originally constructed by German settlers more than 100 years ago.
The project reinterprets the traditional artist's studio through adaptive reuse, merging domestic life and creative production within a unified architectural framework.
Situated in one of the city's older residential neighborhoods, the early 20th-century structure presented both character and constraint. Thick walls, compact proportions, and structural limitations required careful intervention.
The design approach aimed to preserve the historical identity of the building while adapting it to contemporary needs.
The client — the founder and creative director of Seturi — envisioned a multifunctional environment that could function simultaneously as a home, a workspace, and a curated presentation space.
Rather than dividing these programs into rigid zones, the design strategy emphasizes spatial continuity. Living and working areas coexist fluidly, defined through furniture placement, material transitions, and light modulation instead of permanent partitions.
Material selection balances historic context with modern clarity. A restrained palette of warm neutral tones, stainless steel elements, textured finishes, and natural materials creates a dialogue between old and new.
Custom-designed furniture pieces serve both functional and sculptural roles, reinforcing the studio's identity as a curated spatial composition.
Natural light enhances depth and highlights the contrast between the preserved structure and contemporary insertions. The interior remains adaptable, supporting daily life, creative production, and professional meetings without compromising coherence.
Seturi Studio demonstrates how compact historic buildings can be transformed into flexible, integrated environments.
By merging domestic scale with conceptual design thinking, the project contributes to Tbilisi's evolving creative landscape while respecting its architectural heritage.
