Originally a single level apartment on the last floor of the building, a part of the attic has been transformed and opened up to create a duplex, giving the space the feel of a small town house.

Quiet areas are inserted at the upper level into the double height living space; clad in timber, the two volumes at either end reinforce the double height reading of the space and generate a sense of suspension.

The concept allows for evolution as one of the wood inserts can be transformed into another bedroom in the future.

The flat was designed for a young family (a couple with one kid). It comprises of two bedrooms, a shower room, a study and a large open area where a minimal staircase acts as a transparent divider between kitchen and living room, allowing for a flowing overall space.

The building is from the beginning of the 1900s, entirely insulated with timber fibre.

Particular attention has been given to the original features, blending the traditional atmosphere with a smart and modern materiality.

The windows have been replaced in kind, the oak floors have been refurbished and the period panelling and doors have been preserved.
