This conversion of an old farmhouse in Skane, Sweden completed in 2008 was the first project by Swedish-German architect Jonas Labbe and Dutch architect Johannes Schotanus in the firm they formed in 2007 called LASC studio.
They were looking to preserve the nostalgic character of the region yet redesign for contemporary needs of light, space and nature. In Skane, most farmhouses leave a little to be desired when it comes to windows, hence dark interiors.
LASC opened this renovation to the outside by adding large windows and by removing over half of the interior walls and ceilings.
To remain true to the materials typically used in the region they chose concrete, pine and white plaster with the addition of vibrant colors to liven the inside.
Concrete counters in the kitchen, a two-sided woodstove in the heart of the house, and a tub-with-a-view in the bathhouse make this small house big. – Small House Style, 2009
