Lab 360 aims to streamline and improve trauma care in the golden hour by reconfiguring the surgical suite. In addition to physicians from Cedars-Sinai and military hospitals, such diverse areas as psychology, aviation, and human-factors research.

Simulation 360 suite facilitates a real-time, iterative, highly collaborative, spontaneous process of three-dimensional design. Lab 360 aims to streamline and improve trauma care in the golden hour by reconfiguring the surgical suite.

To provide an equipment mobile environment, the design team drew upon techniques of theater design, creating a place that could be completely reconfigured by the researchers without outside help.

Ceiling equipment is moveable, walls are both moveable and demountable, and pieces of equipment are attached to ceiling tracks that pivot around surgical teams.

Because Lab 360 research group is so interdisciplinary, and especially because its area of study is the integration of OR teams and technology, it was crucial that the group’s new space encourage researchers from different disciplines to talk to each other, both formally and informally.

The design achieves this through an open environment that facilitates interdisciplinary and creative interactions throughout the workday.

This hybrid space includes academic offices, collaborative shared spaces, flexible research areas, and some private offices, but no cubicles.

Comfortable congregation areas are designed to facilitate collegial interactions and collaborative activities, maximizing the team’s performance and benefiting each team member personally and professionally.
